Abandoned Vermont: Beauty in the Discarded - Paperback

Discarded Vermont scenes reveal enduring beauty, curiosity, and memory among decaying towns and abandoned spaces.

There's beauty to be found in discarded and decaying abandonment, and there's an excitement and curiosity that comes with stumbling upon it. This book will take you through the towns, small cities, villages, and gores of Vermont, where you'll be able to see the different types of beauty these places have to offer. Beneath the vines and bramble that ensnare these spaces, memories of happier times and hard luck still roam the halls. Towns filled with obscure and unique lore add to the mystery and character of the bygone structures that remain abandoned. Houses and once loved vehicles sit moldering in the quiet of the mountains and woods, often forgotten by everyone except for Mother Nature. Patchwork, "make-do" houses, with scraps of metal jutting out in random spots, and windows of different sizes and age, seemingly added on haphazardly, line the rural roads of Vermont, speaking to the resilience and tenacity of the people who built and once inhabited them. The rooms, filled with left behind dreams and miscellany, serve as time capsules and offer a glimpse into the lives of those they belonged to. Our relationships to the places that shape us will always remain long after we leave them, and maybe that's where the true beauty can be found.
