Book Overview

Ever since the Little White Light started appearing to Penny, at night and in the morning hours, it blinked, reassuring her with its presence. But one night, it wasn't there.

The next day, as Penny thought about the Little White Light's absence, her best friend MJ stopped by. No longer wanting to keep the secret of the Little White Light from him, Penny told MJ all about the light and how very special it was to her.

While the children talked and worked in Penny's garden, they heard a frightening screeching and squawking coming from the side of the house. What could be making such a terrible noise? Facing a scary situation on their own, the children must find courage and compassion in the face of fear.

This coming-of-age story about overcoming scary moments will resonate with children young and old. Beautifully illustrated and told in charming prose, An Almost Very Scary Day is a wonderful reminder about how magical even an ordinary day can be.

About Judy Ann Lowe

Judy Lowe is a retired Gifted and Talented teacher in the Dallas Independent School District in Dallas, Texas. Since 1966, she has acquired a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and a Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education. Her hobbies are reading, working in the yard, walking, and being outside. Judy enjoys musicals, attending The Vocal Majority performances, traveling, and watching many programs on PBS, the Hallmark and History channel. She is a member of the Dallas Museum of Art, Texas Retired Teachers Association, Dallas ISD TAG Educators Alumni, and KERA. The inspiration behind her story of the little white light began several years ago before and after her husband, Sam Lowe, passed away. At the time, she did not understand it or why it started appearing. She never was afraid or uncomfortable about it and even started talking to it. Not only has it continued to appear every night and every morning, but even sometimes during the day. It has continued to make its presence known to Judy through several years of caring for her mother, who recently passed away as well. It is Judy's hope that children of all ages, and adults as well, will discover their very own little white light and be inspired by it.
