He competed on championship teams in high school and college. Since then, he has officiated at all levels of the sport including the 1996 Olympic Games. He served during 2000-2008 as Treasurer of USA Track & Field, the National Governing Body of the sport. In 2013, he was inducted in the National Track & Field Officials Hall of Fame
