While Billy the Kid may never have had an encounter with an alien during his lifetime (or did he?), I hope that this adventure will convey enough of the Kid's historical surroundings and events in the guise of a Western alien fiasco that young readers will want to learn more about real history. There are many events in this story that really happened (perhaps without an alien present) - see if you can find these "historical Easter eggs" throughout the book!

Another possible point of deviation in this book: throughout the story, you'll see endnote citations. Good history is all about documentation. Using endnotes in this book for young readers will, I hope, teach them at an early stage about the usefulness of source-checking and research integrity. Each endnote will provide some of the actual history behind the events in the story.
