Brave, Bold First Lady Lou Hoover: Survivor of China's Boxer Rebellion - Paperback

Twenty-nine years before becoming First Lady, Lou Hoover was a newlywed in Tientsin, China, when the 1900 Boxer Rebellion exploded. This is the epic tale of how Lou and Herbert Hoover were trapped in the Foreign Legation by over 2,000 Boxers and 25,000 Imperial Chinese Troops. Refusing to evacuate, Lou survived a shell blast, nursed the wounded, and patrolled the bullet-shattered city walls with a Mauser .38 pistol. Her courage emboldened Herbert Hoover to guide the American Marine assault that freed Tientsin's captives. Though it happened over 100 years ago, Lou's story is a timeless testament to the brave, bold spirit of America's women.
