Carmelita - Paperback

Based on true events, Carmelita is a bilingual picture book introduces young readers to the history of Carmelita Torres, a 17-year-old Mexican girl who led thousands in protest on the U.S.-Mexico border in 1917. Designed to engage young readers and enrich classrooms, this beautifully illustrated book celebrates her bravery and explores themes of resistance, justice and the power of youth-led activism. With its emphasis on Latina and Chicana history, Carmelita is a powerful tool for educators seeking to amplify underrepresented voices and teach students about civic agency and social movements.
