Book Overview

by Jack Smith (Author)

England is known as the home of the Beatles, James Bond, and Queen Elizabeth II. But this country has had quite a number of such terrifying cases in its past, and this book gives you an overview of the most significant cases.

Britain is known for a great many things throughout world history. The British invented the steam engine, and (although it's debatable) very nearly invented the computer through the tinkering of Charles Babbage and the later work of Alan Turing. Britain has played a major role in world affairs for many centuries, and at one point the sun never set on the extensive British Empire. But there are also a few less pleasant things that the British are known for, such as the rampage of the notorious murderer, "Jack the Ripper."

Britain, in fact, has spawned a steady stream of notorious serial killers throughout its history. Lurking in the dark underbelly of British life are beasts who would not hesitate to do their worst to unsuspecting citizens. Leaving a trail of tragedy in their wake, these Beasts of Britain were absolutely ruthless in their killing sprees. Here in this book, we take a look at some of Britain's worst serial killers.

About Jack Smith

Jack Smith is from Clay, New York, and is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta, and Harvard Law School. Upon graduating, he joined the Manhattan District Attorney's office, where he was an assistant attorney on the sex crimes and domestic violence unit. Subsequently, he went on to serve in the United States Department of Justice as an assistant U.S. attorney, acting US attorney, and head of the department's Public Integrity Section. He was also the chief prosecutor at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, an international tribunal at The Hague tasked with investigating and prosecuting war crimes in the Kosovo War. On November 18, 2022, Smith was appointed by US Attorney General Merrick Garland to serve as an independent Special Counsel in charge of the DOJ's criminal investigations into Donald Trump's actions regarding the January 6th US Capitol attack, and Trump's handling and storage of government records. Smith resigned from the position on January 10, 2025 when, following Donald Trump's election to the presidency, the Justice Department had to drop the already-filed case because of its rule against prosecuting a sitting President.
