Book Overview

Fenelon and Madame Guyon is a book written by Elbert Hubbard that delves into the lives of two French spiritual leaders from the 17th century. Francois Fenelon was a Catholic archbishop and theologian who advocated for a more personal and intimate relationship with God. Jeanne-Marie Bouvier de la Motte-Guyon, commonly known as Madame Guyon, was a mystic and writer who emphasized the importance of inner spirituality and contemplation. The book explores their teachings and the impact they had on French society during their time, as well as their enduring influence on spiritual thought and practice today. Hubbard examines their lives, works, and the controversies they faced, including Fenelon's condemnation by the Catholic Church and Madame Guyon's imprisonment for her beliefs. Through this book, readers can gain insight into the spiritual practices and beliefs of these two influential figures, as well as their contributions to the development of Christian mysticism. The book is written in Hubbard's signature style, blending historical facts with his own opinions and insights. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Christian spirituality and the lives of these two remarkable individuals.THIS 56 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great: Lovers, by Elbert Hubbard.
