Book Overview

by Doreen Gallagher Regan (Author), Ellen Mika Zelasko (Author), Rick Falkowski (Author)

Profiles of 250 places, buildings, homes and places in the Western New York area that have or should have historic markers. A full page is dedicated to each location, so each profile provides information about the place and the people that were associated with it. In addition to the three main authors, several other local historians and authors contributed profiles or material for the book. The book is structured by town. Each town section is preceded by an introduction about the history of the municipality. These town sections are written by town Historical Societies, Town Historians and other area authors.

There is at least one photo of each historic place and additional photos in the introductions. The photos are a combination of historic and current photos, taken by various photographers in the WNY area.

This is the perfect book to keep with you when traveling throughout the WNY area. The book will provide information about places you are visiting and since it is compiled by municipality, you can find other historic places to visit based upon your location.

If you live in Buffalo or plan on visiting the WNY area, this book is the perfect traveling companion. Purchase a copy for yourself, friends or relatives that want to know about the historic places of WNY.

It is the first book written to provide detailed information about places with Historic Designation or places that should be recognized. Every historic place in WNY could not be covered and this edition concentrates on the city of Buffalo, towns next to the city, the northtowns and towns along Lake Erie. Since it took over 1 1/2 year to complete this book, a second edition including places where detailed information could not be obtained or that were in the outlying townships, will be published two years from now in 2027.

Hope you enjoy learning about the historic places in our community and you spread the word about WNY to friends/relatives that live in other parts of the country. Historic Places of Buffalo & WNY shows why the WNY area is one of the best places to live and visit in the U.S.
