Book Overview

by Louisa May Alcott (Author)

Welcome to a world where a pair of "Skipping Shoes" can take a reluctant girl on unexpected adventures and a trip to "The Candy Country" teaches a sweet lesson about moderation. In this first volume of Lulu's Library, Louisa May Alcott presents a collection of living stories that spark a child's imagination while grounding them in the beauty of high-quality prose.

From the transformation of a selfish heart in "A Christmas Dream" to the mischievous antics of "Naughty Jocko," these tales are more than mere entertainment. They are rich explorations of kindness, self-control, and the simple joys of childhood, free from the condescension often found in children's literature. Perfectly suited for family read-alouds or a child's first independent journey into classic literature, this volume serves as a beautiful bridge into the world of great ideas.

About Louisa May Alcott

Louisa May Alcott was born in Pennsylvania, in 1832, the second of four daughters. After a period of serving as an army nurse, she published Hospital Sketches in 1863, followed by Gothic Romances and lurid thrillers. In 1868-9, she published Little Women, which proved so popular that it was followed by two sequels and several other novels. She died in 1888. Elaine Showalter is the author of the groundbreaking A Literature of Their Own and editor of Little Women for Penguin Classics.
