Book Overview

by Aristotle (Author), Tim Zengerink (Translator)

What if the deepest truths about existence were hidden in the structure of reality itself?

In Metaphysics, Aristotle defines the very science of "being as being." As he seeks the ultimate causes and principles of all things, he constructs a grand framework for understanding what reality is made of-from matter and form to potentiality and actuality.

This book is the cornerstone of metaphysical inquiry, tackling subjects such as universals, the nature of substance, and the existence of a prime mover.

This modern edition brings Aristotle's metaphysical reflections into sharp clarity, bridging the ancient with the modern. It provides essential tools for anyone pondering the fundamental nature of reality.

What You'll Discover in This Modern Translation:

  • The Science of Being - Understand what it means to study "being qua being," the heart of metaphysics
  • The Four Causes - Explore Aristotle's famous framework of material, formal, efficient, and final causes
  • The Concept of Substance - Learn why substance is the foundation of reality and identity
  • The Unmoved Mover - Dive into Aristotle's argument for a first cause that is pure actuality
  • Accessible, Insightful Translation - A faithful yet readable version designed for both newcomers and scholars

If you want to explore the roots of all philosophical inquiry, this is where it begins. Aristotle's Metaphysics is more than a classic; it is a key to the underlying structure of reality itself.

About Aristotle

Aristotle (384-322 BC) was born in the Macedonian city of Stagira. He studied in Plato's Academy in Athens and later became tutor to Alexander the Great before establishing his own school in Athens, called the Lyceum. His writings, which were of extraordinary range, profoundly affected the whole course of ancient, medieval, and modern philosophy. Many of them have survived, including The Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, and Poetics, among others.
