Sawdust and Solitude - Paperback

by Lucia Zora (Author)

"Sawdust and Solitude" is a compelling autobiography that chronicles the extraordinary life of Lucia Zora, one of the most celebrated female animal trainers of the early twentieth century. The narrative provides a vivid look at the golden age of the American circus, detailing Zora's daring feats and her experiences training elephants and lions under the big top.

The book's title reflects a fascinating duality of experience. While the first portion of the work immerses the reader in the vibrant, high-stakes world of the circus, the second half transitions to the rugged landscape of northwestern Colorado. Zora describes her move from the "sawdust" of the performance ring to the "solitude" of a remote ranch, offering a unique perspective on pioneer life and the immense resilience required to survive as a homesteader in the American West.

Combining elements of adventure, memoir, and Western history, "Sawdust and Solitude" remains a significant literary work. It captures the spirit of an era where individuals could reinvent themselves entirely, moving from the roar of the crowd to the quiet challenges of the frontier. This work is an inspiring testament to Zora's versatility and courage across two vastly different American landscapes.
