Book Overview

by Helene Gisiger (Author), Michael Shreve (Adapted by)

In Tobio in the Land of the Fays, young Tobio leaves Earth on the wings of a spirit to arrive on Jupiter, a land inhabited by Fays, Sorcerers, Wizards, Sprites and Dwarves. Thanks to his bravery and loyalty, and the help of his mentor the Sorcerer Sirius, he soon becomes one of the most important heroes of this new world.

In Tobio, Detective in the Land of the Fays, Tobio makes two new friends: the sorcerer Elegant and Astrobus, a dwarf inventor. Together, they emerge as the champions of the weak on Jupiter. They build their own castle on Dream Mountain and go on to fight the evil Wizard King Ramines X.

In Tobio, His Great Adventure, Astrobus builds a marvelous vehicle called the Tobiophyllox, and the heroic trio, accompanied by the Dream Fay, go out among the stars, visiting Saturn, its rings and satellites.

Written between 1941 and 1944 by Swiss author Helene Gisiger, the Tobio trilogy remains a forgotten classic of children's fantasy literature, halfway between The Chronicles of Narnia and The Wizard of Oz, and well deserving of great recognition today.
