Book Overview

Winnie Knox is a prison dweller, only not the incarcerated kind. On weekdays from 8:00-3:00, she endures the hormonal hot mess that is middle school, counting down the hours until she can escape back into the penitentiary she and her prison chaplain mother call home. Within the barbed wire confines of Bruno Schneider Correctional Facility, Winnie is free to explore the cell towers and their eccentric occupants.

But when Winnie hears a plot too horrifying to process- a plot with consequences that shake the town of Sanctuary, Tennessee to its very core- she decides to recruit her best friends to help right the wrongs of her silence. And just like that, the Prison Quest is born. What follows is a daring expedition into the very heart of the prison where not even the warden's office is off limits and a mobster's long-lost treasure awaits.

Eliza Smith has crafted a charmingly Appalachian tale with a cast of characters sure to delight, exploring along the way guilt that haunts and grace that heals as one girl searches for hidden treasure and finds that which is worth infinitely more.
