Book Overview

by Ernest Hemingway (Author)

Ernest Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises" captures the spirit of the "lost generation" in post-war Europe. Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1920s Spain, the novel explores the lives of American expatriates adrift in a world grappling with disillusionment. Their journey through bullfighting festivals and bustling cityscapes becomes a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the search for meaning.

A classic of American literature, this historical fiction vividly portrays the era of Alfonso XIII. Hemingway's spare prose and unflinching honesty create a timeless story of individuals seeking connection and purpose in a world forever changed by war. "The Sun Also Rises" remains a powerful and enduring testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

About Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway did more to change the style of English prose than any other writer of his time. Publication of The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms immediately established Hemingway as one of the greatest literary lights of the twentieth century. His classic novel The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953. Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. His life and accomplishments are explored in-depth in the PBS documentary film from Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, Hemingway. Known for his larger-than-life personality and his passions for bullfighting, fishing, and big-game hunting, he died in Ketchum, Idaho on July 2, 1961.
