Trapped Marionettes: a Surreal Portal Fantasy - Paperback

by M. Minji Jacome (Author)

She wanted things to make sense again. Instead, she found the Cats.

On a surreal, Wonderland-like island, in a hidden realm parallel to Japan, live the Cats: creepy, humanoid cat-like creatures governed by an enigmatic leader named Halfmoon, referred to as It. Obsessed with Its genius technological inventions, It watches everything...

Amber, a young girl struggling to process her parents' divorce, a recent move, and her emotionally absent mother, exists at the edge of reality. When she slips through a portal from her small coastal town, she finds herself in the Cats' world, an impossible place where nothing is quite as it seems. The Cats need her to save their island from impending doom. Fail, and she might be trapped in their nonsensical world forever.

Alongside a wacky Cat companion, Amber embarks on a surreal journey - one that pulls her deeper into the dizzying, addictive allure of Halfmoon's inventions and the Cats' chaos. The further she travels, the more reality, and Amber herself, begin to unravel.

A darkly whimsical tale, Trapped Marionettes explores escapism, obsession, and the dark side of technology in today's world.
