Where Animals Talk: West African Folk Lore Tales - Paperback

by Robert Hamill Nassau (Author)

Where Animals Talk: West African Folk Lore Tales by Robert Hamill Nassau is a rich and engaging collection of animal stories from the tribes of West Africa, gathered during the author's decades of missionary work in Gabon and neighboring regions. Published in the early 20th century, this compilation preserves the oral traditions that served as entertainment, moral instruction, and cultural continuity among African communities.

These tales-filled with clever animals, tricksters, and moral dilemmas-reveal the profound wisdom embedded in African storytelling. Figures such as the cunning tortoise, the proud leopard, and the deceitful spider bring to life the values, humor, and ethics of the societies from which they originate. Nassau's detailed commentary and linguistic notes provide further insight into the context and meanings behind these narratives.

A classic of African folklore preservation, Where Animals Talk stands as both a literary treasure and an anthropological record, illuminating the universal and timeless power of storytelling across cultures.
