Whim-Whams and Remembrances: A Voice from the Blocks - Paperback

by Robert Buckley (Author), Jean Marilyn Buckley (Author)

Whim-Whams and Remembrances: A Voice from the Blocks offers a gripping collection of true stories from Robert Buckley, who served as a correctional officer at Walpole State Prison, a maximum-security facility, during the tumultuous 1970s. Buckley's firsthand accounts provide a rare glimpse into the daily realities faced by those working inside the prison walls during an era marked by nationwide staffing shortages and unprecedented challenges within the correctional system.

At a time when few dared to take on the role of prison guard, Buckley and a dedicated group of colleagues persevered under the strain of inadequate leadership and constant danger. Despite overwhelming odds, their courage and resilience held the institution together, maintaining order in the face of chaos.

While these pages chronicle Buckley's personal journey, they also echo the untold stories of countless others who endured the harsh realities of prison work -- experiences that tested the limits of human endurance and resolve. If there is a way a life can be threatened or lost, these men have witnessed it.

Whim-Whams and Remembrances invites readers to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of prison life, the challenges of working among inmates, and the struggle to find normalcy beyond the prison gates.
