Wolfsbane - Paperback

by Dan Bechtel (Author)

A voice whispered in the dark: "Your journey has not yet begun."

Seventeen-year-old Dean Morrison is invisible. Failing out of high school in a dead-end town, he's quietly hoping to disappear, until three robed wizards pull him through a gate into Ayrcine, a strange world of twin moons and an absent god.

In the Cathedral of Etaf, Dean opens a forbidden book and unleashes Kyarn, the Gray King: a three-hundred-year-old one-eyed wolf whose bite curses Dean's blood. Now something is waking inside him, and it's hungry.

Hunted and losing control, Dean falls in with an unlikely pack. Oamra, an elven mage who once served the Gray King. Gareth, a blacksmith who forged weapons for his army and lost everyone he loved. Alaysa, a princess who has fought the same curse alone for two years.

The only cure waits at the Gate of Rebirth, where a fire promises to burn away the war between man and beast. But Dean isn't the first of his blood to cross into this world. For three centuries the Gray King has hunted the wolf-blood to extinction, and he remembers the name Morrison.

Dean must master the wolf before it masters him, or become the very monster he was born to fight.

Wolfsbane is a dark coming-of-age fantasy about the beast we all carry: the hunger we fight, the family we choose, and the choice between who we are and what we might become. With a strange world, an ancient enemy, and a curse that feeds on fear, it is a story for readers who like their magic dangerous, their wolves old and patient, and their heroes haunted.
