Kyrie Landvik spent the first sixteen years of her life on a mountainside in Colorado, learning about life from her parents by playing D&D and studying math and physics. The tragic loss of her parents thrusts her into the modern world of computers, phones, and high school under the care of an aunt she never knew existed, while also awakening the reason for her isolation.

Growing up without friends, Kyrie finds herself collected into a close-knit group over the love of art and D&D by Michelle, another teenager at her school. Kyrie's desire to flee the modern world for safety is challenged when religious fanatics attempt to kill her and her newfound friends on the way home from school. Forced to choose, Kyrie reveals her powers, raising the question of demonic origins.

With the help of Becca, the computer-savvy member of their group, they start to uncover Kyrie's past, and the people who continue to hunt her and the means to control her very soul. This trail leads them to sneak off on a road trip to rural Arkansas, where cell phone coverage is a myth. There, they hope to truly understand Kyrie's powers and how she came to be.
