Book Overview

The early 20th Century was a period of great growth and expansion in the United States. Several big cities, New York and Chicago, saw the rise of skyscrapers, great architecture and social upheaval that involved women's suffrage, immigration and labor issues. These all intersect with the art being expressed at the the time, exploding into novelty and controversy so far from what has ever been done. The story follows a young male engineering student leaving college early for work opportunities in skyscraper construction and a female recent graduate exploring the harsh realities as a budding journalist. They emerge into a personal awakening as they try to make sense of the society and culture that surrounds them. We are immersed into that time period as we also follow the news stories of the unsung and forgotten heroes, the innovators who ushered in change and trasformation. They shaped our culture, cities and way of life.
