Familiar Voices - Paperback

The novel is a multigenerational family saga that includes two coming-of-age stories full of both joy and angst. Jen Dowling is an ethnomusicologist and retired professor, married to a well-respected ceramicist. Her life story is told in a non-chronological manner through stories told to her nephew, Alex, who moves in with her and her husband in Santa Fe, New Mexico for his last two years of high school. Familiar Voices is about the complexity of familial life and the power of stories, both the ones told and the ones kept secret. The backdrop to the novel is the recent Covid pandemic and the vestiges of the AIDS epidemic.
