Book Overview

Camela and Antonio emigrated to the United States where they married and settled in New York City. They spent time in Manhattan where Antonio became involved with the organization that unofficially ran the docks. Following his successful association with the union and the mob, Antonio was able to move his family to the suburbs of Brooklyn and settled in an area known as Bensonhurst. It was there where he and Carmela raised the rest of the Balaticco family which included eight children, three sons and five daughters. Although Antonio tried to steer his children away from the workings of the mob, two of three sons became involved in organized crime. Before Antonio died, he asked his oldest son, Dominic, to save his youngest son, Michael, from further involvement with the mob. Dominic used extreme measures to stop Michael, but was unsuccessful, and Michael joined his other brother, Frank, operating in the crime family. An anonymous call to the police ultimately lead to Frank's arrest and incarceration. Frank blamed his brother, Dominic, for the police raid and vowed to seek revenge. Franks's revenge plan backfired, and forced his other brother, Michael, to get caught in a catastrophic event. The event was so devastating that it led to the unfortunate elimination of other Balaticco family members. An unforeseen chain of events, from which the Balaticco family never recovered, had been put into motion. The resulting negative effects jeopardized any possible future for what had been a characteristically strong, Italian and loyal group of inseparable siblings.
