One of the first and only in-residence programs for Black artists in the United States, the African American Master Artists-in-Residence Program (AAMARP) was founded at Northeastern University in 1977 by artist and educator Dana C. Chandler, Jr. A vital outgrowth of the Black Arts Movement in Boston, AAMARP is a visual arts complex intended to provide free studio space, on-site galleries and multi-purpose spaces for community engagement. This is the first publication dedicated to the history and legacy of AAMARP.
