With the death of her father when she was twelve, and an adolescence spent with her grandfather away from home, she put her dreams aside to help support her family.

As a young immigrant to the United States in 1962, she married, started a family and began a journey that would see her rise to prominence in the contemporary art world and travel two continents with her work.
