Book Overview

This songbook contains a collection of 38 of the best traditional sea shanties and other songs of the sea from the British Isles, America and beyond - classic pieces of life on and around the sea. These songs were chosen by author Ben "Gitty" Baker from amongst his personal favorites, the sort that you would be likely to hear at a traditional maritime singing session. Each song arrangement includes 3-string tablature, chord names and forms, lyrics and additional verses. A short snippet of their background and history is also provided, as well as multiple arrangements in different keys and styles, to accommodate varying skill levels and vocal ranges. These are new, original arrangements created by the author specifically for cigar box guitars and other homemade 3-string instruments tuned to Open G GDG.Song List: All For Me Grog; Aweigh, Santy Ano; Blow, Boys, Blow; Blow the Man Down; Blow Ye Winds In the Morning; Bonnie Hieland Laddy; Bonnie Ship the Diamond; Botany Bay; Carrickfergus; The College Hornpipe; Farewell To Nova Scotia; Farewell to Tarwathie; Go To Sea No More; Greenland Whale Fisheries; Haul Away Joe; Holy Ground; Homeward Bound; The Irish Rover; Leave Her Johnny, Leave Her; The Leaving of Liverpool; The Mermaid; Minguilay Boat Song; Morning Glory; Off To California Hornpipe; Paddy Doyle's Boots; Paddy West; Quare Bungle Rye; Rolling Down to Old Maui; Rolling Home; Shenandoah; Skye Boat Song; South Australia; Threescore and Ten; The Water Is Wide; Westering Home; What Do We Do With A Drunken Sailor; Whiskey is the Life of Man; Yarmouth Town
