RSC Co-Artistic Director Tamara Harvey directs Kenneth Branagh as Lopakhin, Helen Hunt as Ranyevskaya and Bill Pullman as Gaev in Laura Wade's vital new version of Anton Chekhov's great final play, tragic and comic in equal measure, set in a world tilting towards revolution.

This edition was published to coincide with the world premiere production at Swan Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon, in July 2026.

Films include The Riot Club. Awards include the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright, the Pearson Best Play Award and the George Devine Award. Laura Wade was a member of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme. Breathing Corpses won her the Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright, the Pearson Playwrights Best Play Award and the George Devine Award. Described as "an outstanding talent" (The Spectator) Wade also received an Olivier Award Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre for Breathing Corpses and Colder Than Here 2006.
