Book Overview

by E. T. a. Hoffmann (Author)

Who is there, over the wide world, who has not, at one period or another, in a more or less degree, felt the mysterious influences of love?-Whoever thou art, then, courteous reader, who shalt, after the lapse of years, turn over these papers, recall, I beseech you, to recollection that noontide interval of dazzling brightness-contemplate once more that beautiful image, which came, like an impersonization of the abstract spirit of love, from divine regions, to meet you.

About E. T. a. Hoffmann

The German romantic novelist Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann (E T A) Hoffmann (1776-1822) wrote fantasy and Gothic horror, but was also a jurist, composer, music critic and artist. A number of his stories have inspired operas and ballets including Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, in which a fictionalized version of Hoffmann is the hero. Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker is based on the novella The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
