The busy bazaars of Kabul are liberally salted with youthful trekkers, spies of a dozen nations, and the emerging communist and fundamentalist devotees. David befriends an AWOL soldier, accused of treason, who is pursued by his vicious captain and a formidable intelligence agent. The enigmatic expatriate, Conrad Slocum, comes to their aid. At the same time the friends must deal with the plight of a young Afghan woman trying to escape the horror of a forced marriage to a violent fiancé.

The Kabul Conscript is a "Conrad Slocum" novel, and a prequel to Cape Decision.
