About Abraham Verghese
Abraham Verghese is a distinguished writer and physician renowned globally for his evocative works. He was born in Ethiopia in 1955 to Indian parents, studied medicine in India at Madras Medical College, and later moved to the U.S., where he completed his fellowship in infectious diseases at East Tennessee State University. He blends his medical knowledge intricately with his literary skills to produce best-selling novels and nonfiction works. His debut novel, ‘Cutting for Stone,’ was on the New York Times bestseller list for over two years. He is also known for his memoir ‘My Own Country’ and ‘The Tennis Partner.’ Currently, he is the Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. Over his career, Verghese has received numerous awards, including the National Humanities Medal in 2016.
