She was born and raised in Libertyville, Illinois, and her Midwestern roots have significantly influenced her storytelling style. Wecker obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Carleton College in Minnesota, where her passion for writing took flight. She then honed her craft further, earning a Master of Fine Arts in Fiction from Columbia University in New York City.
Her literary debut, “The Golem and the Jinni,” brilliantly merges elements of magical realism with narratives of Jewish and Arab immigrant experiences in late 19th-century New York City. The novel quickly gained recognition for its rich character development and narrative depth, earning the prestigious Mythopoeic Award for Adult Literature in 2014 and getting selected for numerous book clubs, including The New York Times Book Review’s Editor’s Choice.
