About Michelle Zauner

Michelle Zauner is an accomplished author and musician, best known for her indie rock project “Japanese Breakfast.” Born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Eugene, Oregon, Zauner achieved a resounding success in the music industry before turning to literature. In 2021, she released her debut memoir, “Crying in H Mart”, a New York Times bestseller that explores her experiences with identity, heritage, and loss following her mother’s death. The memoir was praised for its tender exploration of Zauner’s Korean-American identity and was an extension of a viral 2018 New Yorker essay. Alongside her writing, Zauner continues to produce music with “Japanese Breakfast”, characterized by its unique blend of indie pop, rock, and electronica.
