Jane Austen

Jane Austen was a renowned English novelist, best known for her six major novels that critique the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Born on December 16, 1775, in Steventon, Hampshire, England, Austen’s works explore themes of women’s dependency on marriage for social standing and economic security.
