Born in 1965 in Afghanistan, Khaled Hosseini is an internationally renowned author who rose to prominence with his remarkable storytelling skill. As a child, his intriguing experiences in Kabul and later in Paris - where his father worked as a diplomat - paved the way for his strikingly authentic portrayal of Afghanistan. His family sought political asylum in the U.S after the Soviet Army invaded Afghanistan, and consequently, he settled in San Jose, California. Hosseini pursued a degree in medicine from UC San Diego School of Medicine, however, a significant turning point arrived in his life when he penned down his debut novel "The Kite Runner" in 2003.
"The Kite Runner" skyrocketed to fame, earning critical acclaim for its poignant exploration of the relationship between father and son against the backdrop of a war-torn Afghanistan. Following the novel’s phenomenal success, Hosseini wholeheartedly embraced his true calling as a writer. His next works "A Thousand Splendid Suns" (2007) and "And the Mountains Echoed" (2013), continued to capture the complex dynamics of human relationships, further solidifying his reputation as a gifted chronicler.
In addition to his literary prowess, Hosseini is a dedicated philanthropist. He established The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, which aims to aid underprivileged communities in Afghanistan, focusing on providing education and healthcare support.
