William Goldman

William Goldman was an iconic American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, best remembered for an illustrious career that spanned over five decades. Born in Chicago in 1931, his literary talents emerged early on; he published his first novel, "The Temple of Gold," shortly after graduating from Columbia University in 1956. His expansive portfolio includes a range of genres, from drama to fantasy, but he is best known for his magical realism novels, including the highly acclaimed "The Princess Bride" and "Marathon Man."

His transition into screenwriting was seamless and phenomenally successful. Goldman won his first Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1969 with "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," instantly cementing his reputation at the forefront of Hollywood. In 1976, he won his second Oscar for “All the President's Men," building a legacy as one of the industry's most respected writers. His unique ability to create thoroughly compelling, complex characters, paired with his knack for building suspense and drama, set him apart and continues to influence film and literature today.

Despite his undeniable success, Goldman remained modest about his abilities, attributing much of his success to luck. However, his enduring influence on the film industry suggests otherwise. Goldman passed away in 2018, leaving behind a remarkable body of work that continues to inspire and entertain audiences worldwide.
